Sabbath 3,4

The third meeting was outstanding! We had yoga, 2 different home-made cakes to eat (to balance the benefit of yoga), sketching lessons, and, for the first time a decent prose reading/ storytelling.


Yesterdays meeting was also great. Sensei San cooked a very tasty and healthy dahl following THIS reciepe. We ate it after Aikido warm-up exercizes (with influence of callanetics (thanks to irra))
Afterwards we had a alternative non-academic picasso-like sketching lesson by the famous master of glitter and flitter. The most interesting thing is, that some of us haven't been doing the drawing thing at all, but now, when they try, it appears that some hidden talents are revealed.

 The oldest roots of shmotique make their presence felt by the fact, that in the end of every sabbath we can't resist the urge to do the good old clothes-swapping thing. Maija said, that next time she will bring some garments from Marocco!

Aaaarrgh  .... All this sounds like some kind of account, compairing to what it really is.

The first two Sabbaths proceeded in a small, but passionate and warm company.  
Each time we had a short yoga class and a chess championship for absolute beginners.

The wind of changes ("zu sein" VS "zu haben")

Hello!
Due to the change of economical and spiritual vibrations, shmotique team has changed the character of actions. Our costumes and acessories, have joined (and hopefully will continue to do so) MagpiesShop collection.

Interested about what are we doing now?
For most of us the period when the long hours of sitting
in Café with a single cooling of a cup of coffee in the hands was possible, has passed. Theater, cinema, exhibitions ... All of these, often lonely and mostly purchasable things are  uncommon treat and the expectations are rarely met.
In the struggle to survive we tend to forget the value of real human relationship and reserve our creativity for something that potentially could be exchanged for food.
In these times it is vital to play more. To dream and build castles of air.

What could be better and more awakening, than a good conversation?
A real conversation is elusive and volatile. No one knows when it
will appear and when - will disappear.
We can only embellish the room, light the incense and expect it to appear sometime.
But while we wait, we can see to it that our senses
don’t become blunt  - we can meet and talk to each other about what
we have learned, what we've figured out  and what inspires us.

That is why we gather every sabbath eve. 
Each time under different theme.

Let us not consume culture,
Let  us be culture ourselves!

To the Railway platform!

Latvian Art Academy students of  the department of fashion art  will have a fashion show "Railway platform" at Latvian Railway Museum in Riga, Uzvaras bulvāris 2 / 4.

The participants are students of all years, who wish to show their work to wider audience.


"The project aims to provide opportunities for young fashion designers to participate in fashion show and build their reputation, as well as promote design created in Latvia and to introduce the fashion industry professionals and the public with young artists and their collections."

Graduations, interiours and whimsical fashion shows

It is time for diploma thesis, graduating schools and finishing work before holidays, so it is clear why there is such a gap between the updates recently...
But in the meantime, Mackus sisterz managed to make an interiour for recycled fashion show.

Feedback from the show was great, and the interior has been noted as a particularly successful.

involved. As a result shmotique has new members- the Mackus sisterz- Liene  & Maija.

Lady From Amica magazine

Amica Lady

When I was a little girl , my mom had an italian partner. She used to visit him in his country as often as she could. She was bringing an italian ladie's top magazine "Amica" for me. 80's and early 90's , was a romantic period for me, in my girlish way. Magazine was fool of fascinating fashion, advices, cosmetics and so on. It was so "Ideal" for me. I wanted to grow up as one of these presented Amica women. When I saw this dress in combination with shoes it switched me into this memory.

Punky Opera dress

The dress is from Marceille, it's lable says "Opera" and it is from gentle black velvet. Sleeves are thorn off - the previos owner is a theatre director punk lady (now living in London).











Shoes that make you go to Israel.

The previous owner left theese expressive shoes in Latvia, to spend winter at the hot Israel. To some people they seemed SO crazy, that didn't even believed, that they could match with anything. At the end, I think that they look really cool in this witch- bitch outfit. The metal bling-blings make them even more gothic.













Magic hat, that takes you to Rome.

This hat is bought in Rome and
it's previous owner called it "The hat, that I wear only in Rome." I guess she's not returning. Although, I have never heard about a way that doesn't lead to Rome...

Things that keep me warm this winter

Two of the things that keep me happy in this harsh Nordic winter (- 20 C today here in Latvia!!!) are:

1. Sea-buckthorn jelly that is packed with antioxidants, flavonoids and vitamin C, tastes like a pineapple and orange together (and even better!) and has a beautiful golden color like the sun.

2. Padded underpants which I dare to pronounce the best invention for Nordic women. The secret is quite simple - they keep your butt big (and big is sexy), warm and happy!

The wolves in the walls

Around midnight I read "The wolves in the walls" - scary and wonderful book by Neil Gaiman (also author of Coraline). Then I went to sleep. Around 3 AM I woke up and for quite a while was sure that there are wolves in the walls of my room, too. But no, it was just neighbors watching movies with lots of killing and shooting. No wolves in my walls for now.

Check out Neil Gaimans' work, it is simply marvellous (and, as a bonus - creepy and weird, too).

I stumbled upon Challahclothing.com online t-shirt shop that sells witty t-shirts for jewish minded people.

My personal favorites are those two:

A German asks a Mexican if they had any Jews in Mexico. He said "yes estupid, we have Orange Jews, Apple Jews, Grape Jews.."



A jewdo chop - from the Challahpedia, the encyclopedia of all that is Jewish. Refers to strikes performed with the lower part of an open hand via sweeping techniques, usually towards pressure points. Classically known as the "knife hand strike".
